Bankside Futures

Bankside Futures is a summer programme for young people aged 16 – 18 years old, designed to get young people ready for the world of work by meeting a range of employers and creating a social action project in their community!

Young people will learn about the world of work through tailored workshops, work experience mornings, networking opportunities and mock interviews! Additionally, in small teams they will use the skills they have developed to create a social action project about something they care about that is affecting Southwark and present this to friends, family, employers and local businesses at the end of the programme.

Dates: Monday 8th – Friday 19th July 2024

Location: Bankside, SE1

Requirement: Aged 16-18 years old, and living or studying in Southwark

Cost: Free

What will I do on the programme?

The programme runs over 2 weeks Monday – Friday.

Each day, you will get to meet a different employer who will answer questions about their job / career and help you develop your skills in various sectors through tailored workshops and work experience sessions. During the two weeks, you will also be given the opportunity to build a social action project that will impact Southwark. This work will be guided but you will work in a team with other young people to develop and prototype an idea which you will present in week 2. Additionally, you will get to build your confidence to network, develop your CV, and attend mock interviews so that you are prepared for the world of work.

How does the application process work?

If you are a young person, you can apply to Bankside Futures by filling out this application form – (Form removed as application have now closed).

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted so we can have an informal chat with you.

If writing isn’t really your thing, you can also answer the application questions in video format. More info in the link above.

What are we looking for in your application?

You don’t need any specific qualifications but we are looking for people who can demonstrate:

  • Ability to communicate your ideas clearly whether this is via writing or video
  • Strong personal commitment to the programme
  • That you are ambitious and self motivated
  • Good attention to detail
  • You have overcome challenge and shown determination
