Yusuf took part in our Learn2Work programme during his time at Sculpt. Learn2Work is a professional development opportunity to support young SEND people at the beginning of their careers journey, primarily those aged 16+. This 8 week programme aims to break down the barriers to opportunity through bespoke sessions on important professional and social topics and skill development.

My name is Yusuf, and I took part in the Learn2Work programme at Sculpt this summer. I have specific learning difficulties and sensory needs that can make sitting in a classroom hard sometimes. I have loads of skills that I can identify, but my weirdest one is that I can drink water really fast!

I want to have two jobs in the future. I want to work for the Police because the uniform is inspiring and I like to protect people. I also want to be an Actor so that I can become famous, make loads of money and achieve my dream of visiting Qatar!

Working with Sculpt I was able to identify my skills:

  • Communication – I am very sociable and love talking to all types of people and asking loads of questions
  • Hard-working – I am determined to do the best I can and am not afraid to ask for help when I need it
  • Creativity – My art and acting skills are getting better every day and I enjoyed doing the customer service role play a lot

Through my time at Sculpt, I learned about saving money and how to make good decisions when spending after you get a pay-check I shouldn’t spend it all at once. My favourite part was when we went to Humanity & Inclusion on a trip to talk about charities. The building was really high up and we could see the whole of London which I’d never seen before!

Here are my friends at the Humanity & Inclusion office in London!
